Professor Jakariya specializes in Human Geography, Environmental Risk Assessment, Climate Change Adaptation, Water Resources Management and GIS. Prof. Jakariya is currently working as Professor and Chair of the Department of Environmental Science and Management of North South University. He has a wide range of experience in designing and implementing action research. He worked as a lead researcher for many national and international organizations mostly on natural resources management and groundwater related issues for more than two decades. Under his leadership, the department has seen notable success including the launch of two environmental and GIS labs. In addition to leading the department and teaching, Prof. Jakariya is an Executive Member of the National Environmental Committee. Before joining NSU, he was one of the pioneering contributors to the sustainable arsenic mitigation projects of UNICEF, Bangladesh. His contribution to providing sustainable safe water techniques for underprivileged people of Bangladesh is praiseworthy. He is currently the lead investigator of several projects funded by national and international donors. He received MPhil degree in Environment and Development from Cambridge University, UK, in 2000, and Ph.D. from the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), Sweden in 2007. Prof. Jakariya has published a good number of papers in international peer-reviewed journals and books.
